Z-Wave compatibility and setup
A compatible Z-Wave hub or controller is required for connected features and remote access. Keypad access does not require a hub. Confirm support for the Home Connect 620 with your hub provider before purchase; available features depend on your system.
| Connection or system | Compatibility and requirements |
|---|---|
| Ring Alarm | Kwikset explicitly lists Ring Alarm compatibility for control and lock-status checks through the Ring app. A Ring Alarm smart hub is required. This is not a confirmation of Long Range operation. |
| SmartThings | Kwikset names SmartThings as a compatible smart-home system. Use a compatible Z-Wave-capable hub and confirm your specific hub model and software with the provider. This is not a confirmation of Long Range operation. |
| Existing / standard Z-Wave networks | Backward compatible with existing compatible Z-Wave panels and hubs. Standard Z-Wave uses mesh networking; connecting to an older hub does not add Long Range capability. Confirm lock support and available features with your controller provider. |
| Z-Wave Long Range | Requires both the lock and the hub/controller to support Z-Wave Long Range. LR uses a direct hub-to-lock connection rather than mesh repeaters and uses SmartStart enrollment. A Z-Wave 700 label alone does not confirm that a hub supports LR. Check the provider's LR support and enrollment instructions; no specific LR hub model is certified by this table. |
| Secure enrollment | Home Connect 620 supports S2 security and SmartStart. For SmartStart, follow your compatible hub's instructions to register the lock's QR code/device-specific key before enrollment. For standard inclusion, follow the hub's add-device process and the Home Connect 620 installation guide. |
| Alexa / Google Assistant | Kwikset supports these through a compatible home automation system. A voice assistant alone does not replace the required Z-Wave hub. |
Quick pairing checklist
- Confirm that your hub supports Home Connect 620, update the hub software, and choose standard Z-Wave or supported Long Range enrollment.
- Install the lock and batteries and complete the setup steps in the Home Connect 620 installation guide. Check smooth bolt movement with the door open.
- Start the hub's add-device process. Use its SmartStart QR-code steps when supported, or follow the lock guide for standard inclusion. Keep the hub and lock within the provider's recommended pairing distance.
- Wait for enrollment to finish, then test lock, unlock and status reporting with the door open before relying on remote access.
- If pairing fails or the lock was previously enrolled, follow the hub's exclude/remove-device instructions before trying again. Consult the hub provider and Kwikset support for model-specific troubleshooting.
